BayWa r.e. sells wind farm to energy cooperative NEW in Bavaria

Munich (renewablepress) - In mid-October, BayWa r.e. successfully sold the Creußen wind energy project south of Bayreuth to energy cooperative Neue Energien West eG (NEW), based in Grafenwöhr.

Matthias Taft, Board Member of BayWa AG with responsibility for the energy business, sees this as a foundation for further collaborations with community-owned organisations: "We are delighted that we were able to successfully hand the two turnkey plants over to NEW eG. Members of local communities are increasingly interested in becoming actively involved in this new, decentralised and sustainable form of energy provision. We support such community involvement and will continue to do so under the forthcoming EEG 2017." With this in mind, BayWa r.e. has recently developed new solutions that will increase its success rate in the tendering process.

The Creußen wind farm consists of Nordex type N117 wind turbines with a hub height of 141 metres and achieves a total output of 4.8 MW. The two plants have been operational since June. BayWa r.e. will continue to manage the technical operations side of the plant after the sale.

Elke Hanel, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. Wind GmbH, added: "Bringing projects like this to completion will unfortunately become increasingly difficult in Bavaria. The “10H ruling” introduced in Bavaria in 2014 has drastically reduced the range of potential locations for wind farms, thereby almost completely halting the expansion of wind energy. We regret this development. In the wind energy sector, we will therefore be concentrating on other parts of Germany in future but continue to engage in dialogue with local municipalities in Bavaria."

In addition to implementing its own projects, BayWa r.e. also supports local authorities, energy cooperatives and community-owned organisations in the planning of renewable energy projects, particularly with regard to defining financial and legal frameworks and obtaining the required approvals. From 8 to 10 November, the company will be presenting its full range of services at the 25th Windenergietage trade show in Potsdam.
