Lighthouse project using Solar Steam Generator for Industrial Heating and Cooling

- Fresnel Collector field commissioned at JTI in Jordan
- World-wide first direct steam generation for industrial heating and cooling

Freiburg im Breisgau (renewablepress) - Industrial Solar has commissioned a Fresnel collector field for direct steam generation at JTI (Japan Tobacco International) in Jordan. It is comprised of three rooftop-mounted collector strings in serial connection with a total thermal peak power of more than 700 kWth. In addition the installation includes a steam storage as well as a steam driven double-effect absorption chiller. The system at JTI Jordan is the first system worldwide, where direct solar steam generation is used for process heating and cooling.

Industry is responsible for around 30% of the total final energy consumption, whereas the major share is used for process heating and cooling. When it comes to energy transformation or industrial process heating, various improvement areas still exist across the industry. However, by opting for technologies that significantly cut the CO2 emissions and energy costs, Industrial Solar and JTI clearly demonstrate their commitment to building sustainable supply chains. This unique lighthouse project is clearly a big step in the right direction.

The installed LF-11 Fresnel Collector is a linear concentrating solar thermal collector optimized for industrial process heat applications with temperatures up to 400°C in the MW range.
