Financing climate protection

Berlin (renewablepress) - The Renewables Academy AG (RENAC) in Berlin will be offering the "Green Energy Finance Specialist (GEFS)" training programme for the first time in Europe from October 1 2019. Launched 2017 as part of the ‘Green Banking’ project in Southeast Asia, it was awarded the German Innovation Prize for Climate and Environment (IKU). The internationally-certified training provides valuable practical knowledge on making renewable energy and energy efficiency projects profitable and minimizing risks.

Climate protection begins with the right financing strategies. This is why RENAC is responding to the growing demand from the financial sector for climate protection measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change with this training programme. It is aimed primarily at financiers and analysts who want to expand their portfolio to include renewable energies and energy efficiency. This programme consists of online and face-to-face trainings. The Green Energy Finance Specialist (GEFS) programme addresses topics including the optimisation of economic efficiency and risk minimisation of projects in the field of renewable energy.

"In this fast-growing market, it is important for financiers to be aware of technology-specific risks and risk avoidance strategies and to obtain a comprehensive overview of correct evaluation criteria at an early stage," said RENAC’s Managing Director Berthold Breid. "We are therefore pleased to be able to offer the GEFS training to credit analysts and project financiers in Germany. In order to evaluate renewable energy projects in a comprehensive manner from a technical and economic standpoint, additional know-how in the financial sector is required.”

The blended learning training, which will be held in English, consists of a 20-week online training course with eight different themes followed by a 3-day classroom seminar in Berlin. The "Green Energy Finance Specialist (GEFS)" program is certified by the Financial Accreditation Agency (FAA).

Graduates of the GEFS programme could potentially be awarded 30 ECTS credits for the 'Green Energy and Climate Finance' master's programme at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR) which is scheduled to commence in October 2020.

The Renewables Academy AG (RENAC), based in Berlin, is one of the world's leading continuing education academies for capacity building in the field of renewable energies and energy efficiency. Since 2008, more than 10,000 participants from over 140 countries have taken part in its various training programmes.
