Deutsche Montan Technologie GmbH hosts the 4th International Coal Methane Conference in Bochum, Germany

Essen, 29.08.2005. The purpose of the amended Renewable Energy Sources Act that came into force on 01.08.2004 is to increase the proportion of electrical power that is produced using renewable energy sources from the current 10% to 20% in 2020. In view of this, the use of coal methane in Germany has increased significantly. The 4th International Coal Methane Conference will take place on 15th and 16th September 2005 and is being hosted by Deutsche Montan Technologie GmbH, Essen, Germany in the RuhrCongress Centre in Bochum, Germany. The emphasis of this congress is on the exchange of experience and on reports from speakers from the USA, India, the CIS countries, Great Britain and of course, from the host country, Germany.

It is not only the climate that benefits from the increased use of renewable energy and the use of coal methane to produce energy. The clear rules that are set out in the Renewable Energy Sources Act as regards obligation to pay for the use of renewable energy has become the driving force for work and employment in this sector and has indeed contributed to the upswing in the use of coal methane in Germany. Worldwide interest in the utilisation of the resource coal methane is also increasing. The object of the 4th International Coal Methane Conference is to promote discussion between experts from research and industry.

The main topics of the Congress that will take place on 15th and 16th September in Bochum, Germany encompass the behaviour of deposits, the assessment of gas potential, requirements regarding machinery and legal conditions, from the amended Renewable Energy Sources Act to the significance of emissions trading. Approximately 200 guests will be attending the Congress. The Congress is aimed at both energy customers and producers, mining companies, companies involved in the planning and construction of plants as well as interested parties from politics, authorities and associations.
