REpower Portugal to respond to Portuguese government

Hamburg, 8 September 2005. Together with Mota-Engil Group, REpower Portugal is to respond to the Portuguese government’s call to tender for wind energy capacity of up to 1,500 megawatts. The tender is to be split into two lots (a first tender for 800 to 1,000 megawatts, followed by a second tender for 400 to 500 megawatts). The total investment volume of the government tender will be around EUR 1.5 billion. Members of the syndicate include Mota-Engil, Portugal’s largest oil and gas company, Galp Energia, which is also active in the renewable energy sector, as well as the leading Portuguese wind energy producer Enersis (30 percent market share).

The decision on the awarding of the contract will be made once the tenders have been received on 30 January 2006. If the syndicate is awarded the contract, REpower plans to establish local production facilities in Portugal as well as set up other facilities abroad for the projects in question. The wind energy companies REpower Systems AG und Martifer Energia each have a 50 percent stake in the REpower Portugal – Sistemas éolicos, S.A joint venture; Martifer Energia develops energy projects and is part of the Mota-Engil Holding, the largest construction company in Portugal, through the Martifer Group. Martifer is the leading player in the steel and metal construction sector on the Iberian Peninsula and the major shareholder in REpower Systems AG.
