Climate Protection: Worldwide CO2 Emissions Rapidly Increasing
Münster – Currently, more rather than less carbon dioxide is being released into the atmosphere all over the planet. According to the International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies (IWR) in Münster, Germany, climate-damaging carbon dioxide emissions have increased considerably since the turn of the millennium. Recent global data of the German Federal Ministry of Economics indicate that CO2 emissions surpassed the 30 billion ton mark for the first time ever in 2006. In 1990, 22.7 billion tons of climate-damaging gasses were released; tens year later (2000) that figure had reached 24.7 billion tons.
“These figures confirm it, the trend is rapidly moving in the completely wrong direction,” said Dr. Norbert Allnoch, Director of the IWR. Allnoch added that as for the international community’s perspective on climate protection, we are further than ever from achieving a point of stabilization, much less a reversal of the trend.
