juwi Brings the Energy Transition to the People

Woerrstadt - Some things work better when done together. That applies to the energy transition as well. \"We see increasing support for the expansion of renewable energies among people. juwi tries to engage people in all its projects\" said Fred Jung, CEO of juwi, a Wörrstadt-based project developer for renewable energies, at the company’s annual press conference. \"This means direct benefits for all people who are directly involved. Public participation also ensures that success and profitability of these projects remain in the region.\"

There are various ways of public participation: From direct, private investments, for example in solar rooftop systems, to leasing receipts for land owners, the cultivation of energy crops, financial exposure through assets or savings bonds to the establishment of energy cooperatives. Energy production from renewable sources in municipal ownership becomes more and more important.

Markus Conrad, mayor of the association of municipalities Wörrstadt, presented the advantages of a decentralized energy supply for municipalities: \"Municipalities that own local renewable energy power plants will benefit directly from the energy transition. The proceeds remain in the municipal treasury and are available immediately for further investment.\"

Conrad knows what he talks about. Last year, Wörrstadt bought its own three-megawatt wind turbine from juwi, turnkey - for about five million euros. The wind turbine’s revenue will benefit the community’s citizens in various ways. To push forward the decentralized energy transition, juwi will continue to expand participation possibilities for individuals, cooperatives and municipalities.

In the fiscal year 2011, juwi has come another step closer to the goal of a 100 percent renewable energy supply. In Kirchberg in the Hunsrueck region, juwi has built the most powerful wind farm in southwestern Germany. The park has a capacity of 53 megawatts (MW) per year and produces around 125 million kilowatt hours of clean wind power. This is equivalent to the annual electricity needs of 35,000 three-person households.

In Ramstein in Rhineland-Palatinate, juwi connected the region’ s first biogas feeding-plant to the grid. Annually, the \"green\" power plant produces more than 30 million kilowatt hours of energy from renewable resources. After the completion of the test phase, the plant will feed in 350 cubic meters of bio methane in natural gas quality into the existing natural gas network. The produced gas can cover the heat demand of about 1,500 households, or be converted into clean electricity.

In 2011, juwi has set the course on the international level as well. The project developer realized three solar free-field plants in the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan - with a total capacity of 18 MW. Additional projects in India with a capacity of up to 35 MW are planned for 2012. juwi successfully entered markets in Singapore, South Africa and Chile as well, first projects will be realized in 2012.

Due to the successful realization of numerous projects juwi had a total revenue of around one billion euros in 2011. Sales are expected to increase to around one and a half billion euros. \"Despite the announced dramatic cuts of the solar feed-in tariff in Germany, I am confident that we will achieve the sales target. We will focus even more on projects in the solar growth markets of India and Southeast Asia,\" said juwi CEO Jung. \"We are strategically well-positioned with our new office in Singapore. Even the Malaysian and Thai PV markets are extremely interesting. In the medium term, we want to be visibly present in these markets as well.”

From July 1, Jung and board members Matthias Willenbacher and Jochen Magerfleisch will be supported by Martin Winter. He will be responsible for Corporate Finance and Corporate Accounting and Tax as Chief Financial Officer. \"We are pleased that Martin, an intelligent and competent person, joined juwi. With his extensive experience in the financial sector and his positive and active personality he will certainly complement us and provide new impetus,\" said Fred Jung.
