Finding the Perfect Energy Mix for Hybrid Power Systems and Micro-Grids

3rd International Hybrid Power Systems Workshop from 8 – 9 May 2018 in Tenerife, Spain

Darmstadt (renewablepress) - One major challenge of island and micro-grids is to maintain the balance between production and consumption. Diesel generators are still frequently used for this task. Due to the dependence on fuel price and delivery options, alternatives are being sought. Renewable energies are independent of imported fuels and environment friendly, and therefore the logical choice for island and micro-grids.

However, these renewable energies are dependent on variable resource availability; hence their maximum production capacity is subject to natural fluctuations. It is therefore important to develop strategies for how to align production and consumption in the best possible way and to find the perfect combination of conventional and renewable energy.

The 3rd International Hybrid Power Systems Workshop from 8 – 9 May in Tenerife, Spain offers its participants the opportunity to discuss these challenges and present solution approaches. International experts will convene at the Sheraton La Caleta Resort & Spa in Costa Adeje to share their project experiences and to detect areas in need of improvement.

During the 14 Workshop Sessions, Speakers will explore applications in a variety of locations and operating environments, with a focus on system design, operating experience, business models, economics, and implementation issues.

The high-quality opening session will focus on grid integration of renewables on the Canary Islands with presentations by Spanish TSO Red Eléctrica de España and the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias. Furthermore, participants can expect two dedicated sessions on international project experiences e.g. on the Faroe Islands, the Seychelles, the Galapagos Islands, Greenland, Bonaire, and Sri Lanka.

The preliminary program is now available online and online registration has started: http://hybridpowersystems.org/
