Vattenfall opens the way for wind turbine supplier Kenersys

Muenster - On the "Global Wind Day" Vattenfall and the wind turbine manufacturer Kenersys inaugurated the wind turbine Näsudden III on Gotland – the utility`s first pilot project with the manufacturer from Muenster/Germany.

To further the development and expansion of wind energy is one of the main objectives, according to Sven-Erik Thor, head of research and development at Vattenfall Pan Europe. As the largest investor in renewable energies and wind power, according to Thor, it is essential to secure Vattenfall`s demand of turbines and at the same time proactively advance technological progress.

The cooperation with Vattenfall allows the turbine manufacturer Kenersys to install its first K100 turbine and at the same time enter serial production on a larger scale. The production plant for these turbines is presently being built in Wismar/East Germany and will be completed in August. "The cooperation with Vattenfall is an outstanding chance to enter the nordic market", emphasizes Dr. Andreas Reuter, Managing Director of Kenersys on the inauguration of the turbine. Gotland`s governor Marianne Samuelsson considers the turbine`s inauguration as an important mile stone for the future of wind energy on the Swedish island.

The K100 turbine with an output of 2.5 MW, its large rotor diameter of 100 meters and tower heights from 85 to 135 meters is designed for wind class II and guarantees optimal profitability on sites with weaker wind conditions as well. The smaller K82 with 2.0 MW has already been installed for the utility Göteborg Energi in Göteborg in spring earlier this year.

The Kenersys turbine has been installed on the test area Näsudden, where Vattenfall tests innovative turbine technologies on large scale since the 80s. Wind energy is one of Vattenfall’s main endeavours to meet the ambitious climate goals: power production by wind energy increasing up to 49 TWh in 2030.
