Swisspower Renewables opens Prösen Solar Park in Wainsdorf: Integrated site combines wind, solar and battery storage

Official opening of Prösen Solar Park in Wainsdorf
© Swisspower Renewables GmbHBerlin/Röderland (renewablepress) - The Swisspower Renewables Group officially opened the Prösen Solar Park in Wainsdorf on 15 October 2026. The ground-mounted photovoltaic plant generates enough renewable electricity to meet the equivalent of around 4,200 households’ annual consumption. Together with the Elsterwerda Wind Farm, it forms part of an energy park that brings together wind power, solar energy and, in the future, battery storage at a single grid connection point.
To mark the opening, Swisspower Renewables welcomed representatives of the municipality of Röderland, landowners, project partners and companies involved in construction. The solar park has an installed capacity of 14.5 MWp and generates approximately 14,900 MWh of renewable electricity annually. This corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of around 4,200 households and avoids approximately 5,400 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.
Together with the nearby Elsterwerda Wind Farm, which is also part of the Swisspower Rene-wables Group, the Prösen Solar Park shares the grid connection at the Gröditz substation. This shared infrastructure provides the basis for the combined feed-in of wind and solar power, with battery storage to be added in the future. This approach enables more efficient use of existing grid capacity and facilitates the economically viable integration of additional renewable energy projects at the site.
The existing energy concept is set to be expanded further in the coming years through the planned Prösen-Nord extension project and the addition of battery storage.
The municipality of Röderland will also benefit from the project in the long term. As part of the municipal benefit-sharing scheme under Brandenburg's Renewable Energy Special Levy Act (BbgEESG), Swisspower Renewables pays a levy of EUR 2,000 per installed megawatt. The company bears the full cost of this contribution, which provides direct financial support to the municipality. Swisspower Renewables has also demonstrated a strong commitment to the region for many years. During the opening ceremony, the company presented donations to the Wainsdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Röderland Schools Support Association, underlining its close ties to the local community.
"With this solar park, we are continuing to advance the expansion of renewable energy and contributing to an affordable energy supply. This is also an important foundation for the competitiveness of the European economy. In addition, battery storage systems will play a key role in integrating renewable energy into the market in the future. They make solar power available even when the sun is not shining. That is why we want to implement storage solutions at this energy park and in future solar projects," said Lars Hieke, CEO of Swisspower Renewables AG.
With the Prösen Solar Park in Wainsdorf, the Swisspower Renewables Group continues to strengthen its commitment to the energy transition in southern Brandenburg.
