BKN subsidiary biostrom realizes first bioenergy project in Switzerland
Sprakensehl-Bokel - BKN BioKraftstoff Nord AG's biogas subsidiary, biostrom Energiesysteme GmbH & Co. KG, has concluded an agreement with the Swiss economic development company BNPO to realize the BioEnergie Seeland project. This order, with a volume of around EUR 2.5 million, is to set up and operate the first biogas plant fueled by renewable materials in Switzerland.
A biogas plant with electrical output of 500 KW is to be set up in the Swiss canton of Bern in 2008. This plant will supply electrical energy and heat after it is completed in 2009. The 4 million kWh of electricity generated mean that it will be possible to supply around 1,000 homes with electricity all year long. Some of the resulting heat will be used to heat greenhouses close to the plant. The remainder of the heat will be used in local refrigeration halls after being converted using absorption refrigeration units. In addition, biostrom's end-to-end concept also includes the use of the resulting fermentation residues. Local fertilizer producers will use the fermentation residues to produce agricultural fertilizers.
"BioEnergie Seeland is the first ever biogas plant on the basis of renewable material in Switzerland," commented biostrom's managing director Günter Schlotmann, who is delighted with the deal. "We convinced BNPO thanks to our long-standing experience in the renewable materials-based electricity and heat generation sector. Our sustainable concept also makes a major contribution to protecting the climate."
Company Profile
BKN BioKraftstoff Nord AG has specialized in project development for biogas plants and the production of biodiesel. Thanks to BIOSTROM Energy Group AG and its operating subsidiaries, which BKN successfully acquired in April, BKN now operates successfully on the market for biogas plants as a prime contractor, covering the entire value chain: The company has far-reaching expertise from maintaining competitiveness standards for plant locations to project planning, permit acquisition, construction and operation of biogas plants as well as the efficient control of the plants. Biological process control for biogas plants, supported by BIOSTROM’s know-how, is one of its particular assets.
BKN's subsidiary BioDiesel Bokel GmbH, which stemmed from an agricultural distillery cooperative, currently has capacity to produce around 50,000 t/year of biodiesel. The company has already substantially increased its revenues and earnings over the past few years.
