PowerWind GmbH sells 50th wind energy converter in Italy

- Opening of sales office in southern Italy planned in 2009

Hamburg - With the closing of two more contracts, PowerWind GmbH sold the 50th wind energy converter type PowerWind 56 in Italy. Since its beginning, PowerWind GmbH has now completed the sale of more than 60 wind turbines with an output of 900 kW each. The company has also concluded agreements for projects in Germany, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria.

This commercial success confirms PowerWind GmbH’s strategy to define Italy as one of the core markets for its business. The two latest companies to have purchased the PowerWind 56 are: Pitta Energia SpA and Sistemi Energetici SpA each with four wind energy converters. The wind turbines will be erected at various locations in Apulia, one of the windiest regions in Italy. Delivery and installation are planned for 2009. "We decided in favor of the PowerWind 56 because of its quality as well as the company's focus on its customers and on services", said Marcello Salvatori, Managing Director of Sistemi Energetici.

"We are delighted with this achievement that confirms our strategy. The PowerWind 56 is perfectly designed to meet the requirements of the Italian market. Furthermore, proximity to our customers is one of our company’s basic principles", said the managing directors of PowerWind GmbH, Dr. Klaus Poetter and Stefan Heczko. "The good relationship with our customers will be enhanced this year: We will open a sales office for our Italian clients and therefore we’ll have the possibility to respond to their questions and wishes even faster."

With the opening of the sales offices in southern Italy PowerWind GmbH will create a regional focused service unit for maintenance and technical support. This expansion of activities shows that the Italian market will play an important role in the future activities of PowerWind. This is also a result of the conditions for wind energy in Italy: The feed-in-tariffs for electricity generated from wind power are very attractive. Furthermore, the demand for wind energy converters of the sub-MW class like the PowerWind 56 is particulary high in Italy, due to the challenging logistics of some sites and easier approval processes for wind energy converters up to 1 MW.
