Phoenix Solar

- Prestigious project at award-winning Changi Airport
- Rooftop system with a peak output of 250 kilowatts

Sulzemoos - The Singapore Branch of TecDAX listed Phoenix Solar AG has won a tender to install a 250 kilowatt peak (kWp) photovoltaic power plant at award-winning Changi Airport’s Budget Terminal.

The project is supported by the Clean Energy Research and Test-bedding (CERT) program launched by the Economic Development Board and Clean Energy Program Office in August 2007. CERT aims to provide opportunities for companies to develop and testbed clean energy applications and solutions using government buildings and facilities in Singapore.

Phoenix Solar will use 127 kWp of First Solar’s thin film solar modules and 123 kWp of REC’s polycrystalline solar modules, together with SMA inverters for this installation. This will be Southeast Asia’s first commercial airport with a photovoltaic power plant, as well as the first commercial application of First Solar modules in Singapore. "We are pleased to be working with Phoenix Solar on this project," said John Carrington, First Solar vice president of marketing and business development. "Phoenix Solar has been utilizing First Solar modules in their PV systems since 2005, when they entered into a long-term supply agreement with us. Together, we are investing in the world's clean energy needs."

REC is constructing a fully integrated wafer, cell and module manufacturing plant in Singapore. Almost 200 kWp of those modules have already been installed locally, with another 300 kWp project under way.

The modules will be installed on the north and south face of the Budget Terminal using Phoenix Solar’s Tecto-Sun mounting system, and will cover a rooftop area of about 2,500 m2. The solar power plant is expected to generate over 280,000 kilowatt hours per year.

Phoenix Solar will also install various sensors to capture environmental data such as ambient temperature, module temperature and insolation – all of which will be fed into the National Solar Data Repository.

The project will kick off in early July 2009 while construction by the Phoenix Solar subsidiary in Singapore is expected to begin in August 2009.

“We are proud to have been selected from nineteen companies that submitted their bids for this prestigious project at the Budget Terminal of Changi Airport. It would be hard to find a better location than Changi Airport for Singapore to showcase solar technology to the international community”, commented Ulrich Reidenbach, Chief Sales Officer of Phoenix Solar AG.
