wpd is awarded the contract for wind farms in Canada

- More than 100 MW of wind power to be installed until 2013

Bremen - Germany’s leading wind farm planning and operating office, wpd, has received the confirmation for a FIT-Contract (Feed-In Tariff Contract) for five wpd projects with a total capacity of 106 MW by the Power Agency of the Province of Ontario/Canada. In total, 47 onshore projects with a combined capacity of 1,229 MW shall receive an FIT-Contract. \"We are happy to be able to win a significant part of the current wind onshore capacities for us with this share of approximately ten percent. Next, we shall commence the next steps in the permit process and start talks with the manufacturers to guarantee a speedy implementation,\" says Arvid Hesse, wpd’s project manager in Canada.

At present, a total of 3,319 MW wind power is connected to the grid in Canada, 1,168 MW of which in Ontario. In order to further this development even more, a new framework law for renewable energies has been implemented in May 2009 (Green Energy Act), which has been specified by – among others – the FIT-Program (Feed-In Tariff Program) in September 2009. \"Besides an increase in remuneration, the new framework law is intended to speed up the expansion of renewables by simplifying the permit procedure and especially to secure a vast number of sustainable jobs,\" Hesse continues.

\"This is a super success for our team in Canada. With this first step, we set the course for project realisations for the years 2012 and 2013. Canada is an exiting market and we’re pursuing extensive project planning goals. Now it is important that the means, which the Provincial Government allocated for the expansion of the grid, are being invested speedily to prevent the imminent shortage\", declares Dr. Hartmut Broesamle, CEO of wpd AG.
