© BnewableOldenburg/Brussels (renewablepress) - The energy company Bnewable will launch its business operations in Germany in May 2025 - with a clear goal: to make German industry fit for the energy transition with intelligent energy management and innovative battery storage systems. The newly founded company will be managed by Fabian Knoch and Max Kronberg, two energy transition pioneers and enthusiasts who have played a key role in the development of sustainable energy systems for industrial and commercial customers in recent years.
The founding of Bnewable Germany is the result of many years of conviction. Fabian Knoch, who holds a doctorate in physics, and Max Kronberg, who holds a doctorate in mathematics, have worked for over seven years in the development and implementation of innovative energy systems for industry and commerce. Their conclusion: Germany needs more entrepreneurial solutions that will ease the burden on tomorrow's electricity system today.
Knoch and Kronberg previously worked at be.storaged GmbH, a corporate venture of EWE AG. In their work to date, they have gained profound insights into the challenges facing German industry in the transformation of the energy system - and identified a clear gap in the market: “Many companies are under pressure to make their energy supply more sustainable, cheaper and more flexible - but there is a lack of practical, economical solutions,” says Knoch. In the search for partners to implement their ideas, they got in touch with the Belgian storage pioneer Bnewable. With Bnewable Germany, the two energy experts now want to offer innovative storage solutions for companies together with their strong partner and at the same time promote the energy transition in Germany.
"The energy transition can only succeed with flexibility on the consumer side. This is exactly where we come in with Bnewable Germany - with technologies that are already being used successfully in Belgium and which we are now transferring to the specific needs of local companies," says Kronberg.
Batteries and algorithms for the energy transition - tailor-made for industry and commerce
Bnewable is pursuing a new approach for Germany, combining high-performance battery systems on company premises and intelligent control via the specially developed Voltana platform with an innovative financing model to create a fully integrated solution. This enables companies not only to use renewable energy efficiently, but also to reduce costs, avoid grid charges and generate additional revenue from the electricity market and grid services - without any investment risk of their own.
"We combine technological excellence with a sound understanding of the market. Our aim is to establish a new level of energy flexibility in the industry - economically attractive, technically reliable and sustainable," says Kronberg.
Germany as a key country in the European energy transition
Bnewable has been successful on the Belgian market since 2022 with battery storage solutions for large commercial and industrial customers. At the end of 2024, the scale-up raised 40 million euros in growth capital to drive its expansion. For Bnewable, Germany is the first step in its international expansion. The parallels between the Belgian and German energy markets - a strong industry, a growing share of volatile renewable energy, rising electricity prices - make the German market a strategic target.
“Our solutions deliver exactly what the industry needs right now: stability, planning security and independence from the electricity market,” explains Kristof Vereenooghe, co-founder of Bnewable. “We are delighted to have Fabian and Max on board, two like-minded people who understand the German market and whose experience and vision are a perfect fit for us.”
About Bnewable
Bnewable was founded in 2022 by energy tech entrepreneurs Christophe Degrez (former CEO of Eneco Belgium) and Kristof Vereenooghe. The company develops decentralized battery storage solutions for industrial and commercial customers and operates a virtual power plant via the Voltana platform with the aim of providing one gigawatt hour of flexible capacity in Belgium by 2030. In 2024, Bnewable raised €40 million in growth capital to drive its expansion.
Bnewable Germany, based in Oldenburg, is starting with a team of six experts in algorithmic energy trading, project development and research. The team is set to grow further by the end of the year.
