Conergy to build new 25,000 m

Hamburg 13 April 2007. The management of Hamburg-based Conergy AG has decided to open a new central warehouse for Europe in the town of Zweibrücken in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. From the third quarter of 2007, more than 130 employees will coordinate pan-European logistics for all brands and product lines of the corporate group. By concentrating all critical logistics functions in this central European location, situated near the borders of France and Luxembourg, Conergy will in future be able to serve markets even better, and continue to pursue the group’s strategy of strong business growth.

“We will be implementing latest-generation warehouse technology on-site. Mobile data acquisition, scanners, warehouse management systems and an optimised layout will all raise our warehouse performance and rate of turnover by a two-figure percentage,” says Edmund Stassen, member of the Management Board of Conergy responsible for supply chain management. “After having optimised our processes in recent months, the decision for a new central warehouse is another logical step for the Conergy Group, which will enable us to continue to meet the ever-increasing requirements demanded of logistics. We are thus laying the foundation for further growth and significantly improved customer service in Zweibrücken.”

Conergy will move into the logistics centre as a tenant. The building itself is financed and managed by the Hamburg-based Garbe Logistic Center Development GmbH, a specialist in logistics centre construction. Sebastian Ott, managing director of GARBE LCD comments: “The contract conclusion with Conergy gives us planning and investment security for our new project in the tri-border region.” The overall investment is being funded locally by the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate. The mayor of Zweibrücken, Prof. Dr. Reichling, likewise welcomes the centre development with a great deal of enthusiasm: “We are happy that Europe’s strongest-selling solar energy company has opted for our location.”

The almost 50,000 m² property in the district of Wallerscheid is not only located near the borders of France and Luxembourg, but also offers outstanding air and road links, making for optimal conditions for the logistics centre, construction of which is set to begin in the coming weeks. Once completed in the third quarter of this year, a 3,000 m² office area will feature ample space for upcoming administrative services. With 25,000 m², the warehouse space even offers space for the annual turnaround of solar modules, inverters, solar thermal products and heat-pump systems. Nineteen loading ramps will ensure high turnover potential for all products in storage. The new facilities in Zweibrücken are large enough to accommodate the Conergy Group’s long-term business expansion plans.
