Wind energy: Conergy tests 1-MW-class prototype in Bremerhaven

Hamburg / Bremerhaven – Conergy has set up near Bremerhaven a prototype wind turbine of the 1 MW-class, the PowerWind 56. The 900kW-machine, with a 56-m rotor diameter, is currently being tested and measured. Simultaneously, the system is undergoing certification as per the IEC for the type class IIA. Conergy will make a decision about further steps after the test phase has been concluded.

“The Conergy PowerWind 56 is the company’s own creation, in close collaboration with outside engineering firms. To this end, components from leading global suppliers in the wind turbine sector were used“, according to Dr. Klaus Pötter, Managing Director of Conergy Wind GmbH. “We decided on a 1-MW–class, as the initial risks are smaller, due to the tried-and-tested concept and the many years of experience with it, and because the key components are more easily obtainable from suppliers on the market than is the case for larger megawatt systems.”

Conergy PowerWind 56: High endurance, with a transport-optimized logistics concept

The Conergy PowerWind 56 is a state-of-the-art wind turbine which is specifically adapted to the specifications of the up-and-coming new wind energy markets. The system can be operated in a high temperature range of up to +45° Celsius, and has a clever logistics concept: The machine cabin, without its casing, fits into freight containers which are customary to the trade – and can thus be sent by ship and then transported by truck to sites which are only accessible with difficulty, or not at all, to larger wind turbines.

Depth of added value: Great potential for worldwide wind projects of the Conergy Group

“The PowerWind 56 would fit well into the renewable energy regenerative portfolio of the Conergy Group. Precisely for on-shore wind farms being projected by the Conergy subsidiary EPURON, turbines in the 1-MW-range are often the best and most efficient solution“, according to Joachim Müller, CEO of EPURON. “We are currently planning our international wind parks more quickly than we can be supplied with turbines from leading manufacturers. With Conergy wind turbines in the portfolio, we would become our own customer – and could implement our projects more rapidly and efficiently in the future.” Further steps will be decided on after the test phase has been concluded. Suppliers for the necessary components in the event of potential production are available.
