European offshore wind farms at a glance
Bremerhaven - The Windenergie-Agentur Bremerhaven/Bremen (WAB) [Wind Energy Agency Bremerhaven/Bremen] will release its new English-language magazine, Offshore Wind Energy – Future Energy Supply from Wind at Sea, at the opening of the European Offshore Wind Energy Conference (EOW2007) in Berlin. This special issue contains extensive and up-to-date information on offshore wind energy, particularly in Germany. The sponsors of the specialist conference, the Europäischen Windenergie Agentur (EWEA) [European Wind Energy Agency], will distribute WAB's special issue to the conference's 1,100 participants. Jan Rispens, head of WAB, said: "This conference highlights the strongly growing interest of businesses and investors in offshore wind energy in Germany and Europe. Our new special issue will offer an informative overview of this new sector. It will also make it apparent at the international level that German businesses are very active and ambitious in this market. Offshore wind energy promises to be one of the largest and least expensive renewable energy sources that Germany can tap in to."
WAB is publishing its 64-page Offshore Wind Energy special issue in English to describe current developments in offshore wind energy in Germany and Europe as a whole. Its contents reflect economic, ecological and societal aspects of offshore wind energy and offer the reader a comprehensive overview of relevant data.
Offshore wind farms have already been built off the coasts of Britain, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands. Today, 15 offshore wind farms, each with a capacity of more than 10 megawatts, generate altogether 1,053 megawatts of climate-friendly power at sea. Ambitious construction plans and the legislation needed to subsidise them have already been seen through in Germany, France, Spain and Belgium.
This special issue, Offshore Wind Energy – Future Energy Supply from Wind at Sea, can be downloaded at no cost at: http://www.windenergie-agentur.de.
WAB is a partner of EWEA. For more information on the 2007 European Offshore Wind Energy Conference, please go to: http://www.eow2007.info.
