BKN biostrom AG secures more than 40 additional biogas projects via cooperation agreement / Managing Board reduced in size

- Amended Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) strengthens business with smaller plants
- Additional revenue volume of at least EUR 50 m expected
- Ulrich Wogart leaves the Managing Board as planned

Vechta - BKN biostrom AG has secured a package of more than 40 biogas projects in different stages of development by signing a cooperation agreement with a planning and engineering firm in north-eastern Germany. The major weight is placed on plants with an output of between 150 kW and 350 kW, which will benefit over-proportionately from the recently amended EEG. The Managing Board of BKN biostrom announced a revenue volume of more than EUR 50 m to be generated from these projects in the next 2-3 years.

The cooperation is designed for the long term and is also to be continued after the projects under the current contract are implemented. With regard to the distribution of tasks, the prerequisites for a successful cooperation are ideal, given the fact that both partners optimally complement each other with their core competencies. The planning agency identifies potential locations including securing the necessary substrates, carries out the permit process and later manages the construction. As usual, BKN biostrom AG operates as a general developer for building the plants, procures the necessary debt financing and secures the placement of equity through its proven sales channels – generally private and institutional investors. After completion, biostrom Service GmbH & Co KG takes on the ongoing support and optimisation of the plants.

This deal once again confirms the appropriateness of the company strategy: as a developer of plants that is independent of manufacturers, BKN biostrom AG is able to react to market changes more quickly and flexibly than many of its competitors. This goes for both, changes to the legal environment and technological developments.

As has been earmarked, the company’s previous CEO Ulrich Wogart retired from his position in the best understanding with the company and the Supervisory Board on 30 June 2008. The smaller Managing Board allows the company to keep abreast with its strategic concentration on the Biogas segment. As was already communicated, BKN biostrom intends to sell the biodiesel plant in Bokel after a now successfully concluded reconstruction.

Ulrich Wogart has been with the company from the start and played a large part in the successful development of the company. The Managing and Supervisory Boards expressly thanked Mr. Wogart for the successful cooperation. Beginning immediately, Gunnar Dresen will take on the responsibility as CFO for the capital market communication and investor support. The two other members of the Managing Board Günter Schlotmann (COO) and Peter Westerhoff (CTO) continue to perform the same tasks.
