Southern Germany at the center of the booming wood pellets market: over 60 percent of all pellets heating systems installed here
Pforzheim - Around 44 percent of all German wood pellets heating systems can be found in Bavaria, with a further 19 percent installed in Baden-Württemberg. This is shown in statistics from the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) which approves grant applications for pellets heating systems. With the highest number of pellets heating systems installed, the southern German states spearhead the German pellets market. Just how dynamic the pellets industry is here is reflected in the fact that the 8th Pellets Industry Forum and the Interpellets trade fair will both take place in Stuttgart (Germany) at the end of October. Both focus exclusively on pellets fuel and pellets technology, and on October 29-31, pellets industry manufacturers, dealers and suppliers will meet at the New Trade Fair Centre Stuttgart for the events. At Interpellets 2008 products, services and new innovations in pellets technology will be on show. On Friday, October 31, the trade fair will also be open to the general public. In addition, around 500 experts from all over the world are expected on October 28-29 for the 8th Pellets Industry Forum trade conference.
From the year 2000 until the end of August this year, the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) approved funding for a total of 84,624 wood pellets boilers and stoves – of which there were 11,667 pellets heating systems this year alone. The actual number of pellets-fired systems installed may even be much higher, as home owners have up to six months after installation to apply for a grant due to changes made to the application procedure last year. Bavaria leads the state rankings with almost 37,500 pellets heating systems, followed by Baden-Württemberg with around 16,000 installations, Nordrhein-Westfalen with 9,000 and Hessen with around 6,700 pellets heating systems. "With almost two thirds of all pellets heating systems installed, Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria form the center of the growing pellets market," states Barbara Pilz, project manager of the 8th Pellets Industry Forum. The German Energy Pellets Association (DEPV) estimates that the number of pellets heating systems in Germany will rise by 80,000 to 100,000 by the end of this year.
