La protection du climat remise en question : les émissions de CO2 atteignent un niveau record

Münster, Allemagne – Les émissions de CO2 dans le monde en 2008 ont augmenté, passant à 31,5 milliards de tonnes au lieu de 30,9 milliards de tonnes en 2007. Un chiffre qui n’a cessé d’augmenter ces dix dernières années, selon un communiqué du Forum économique international des énergies renouvelables allemand, IWR. Dans le même temps, l’année 2008 se caractérise par un investissement international de plus de 120 milliards d’euros dans des installations d’énergie renouvelable (électricité, chaleur, carburant).

«Pour mettre un frein à l’essor de la consommation d’énergie fossile et stabiliser les émissions de CO2 dans le monde, il faudrait au moins quadrupler les investissements internationaux directs dans des installations d’énergie renouvelable et atteindre environ 500 milliards d’euros», affirme Dr Norbert Allnoch, directeur de l’IWR. Cet objectif pourrait être atteint grâce à une imbrication plus étroite entre les émissions nocives et les investissements dans l’énergie renouvelable. «Plus les émissions de CO2 sont importantes, plus les investissements dans l’énergie renouvelable doivent être encouragés», explique Dr Norbert Allnoch.
