Interview with Jens Peter Molly: Mankind is at the beginning of the end of the Atomic Age
Muenster - Muenster -After the nuclear accident in Fukushima, Jens Peter Molly, managing director of the DEWI – (German Wind Energy Institute) and active in the field of wind energy since 1973, sees atomic energy as a thing of the past. In the current IWR-Interview, Molly summarizes the development of wind power use in Germany over almost 40 years and highlights the political effect of the nuclear accident in Chernobyl. After Fukushima, Molly sees mankind at the beginning of the end of the Atomic Age. Molly: \"Those who efficiently back away from nuclear power in a controlled manner and find new paths to take will not have the problem at the next catastrophe of backing away hastily and uncontrolled.\"
\"Renewable energy sources and wind power alongside them shall soon find success,\" said Molly and many who had, up until now, hesitated to become involved in this branch of industry, are now keen on doing so. At the wind energy plants’ current rate of growth, the DEWI director does not see it coming to an end for a long time to come. If large wind turbines exhibit an output of five to six megawatts in today’s time, Molly could imagine there being wind turbines with an output of 20 MW and a rotor diameter of 200 m in 30 years’ time.
The entire interview appeared in the IWR Monthly Report \"Regenerative Energiewirtschaft\", No 4, vol. 2011.

About Internationales Wirtschaftsforum Regenerative Energien (IWR)
In 1996, the International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies (IWR) was established as an independent and private service institution of the renewable energy industry. The IWR focuses on the fields of research, economic and policy consultation as well as media and international networks in the renewable or regenerative energies sector. One main objective of the IWR is to play an instrumental role in introducing and spreading awareness for an industrial, international business profile of the renewable energy industry.
