- The large, acoustically-optimized wind tunnel allows for profile measurements with Reynolds numbers of more than 6,000,000

Bremerhaven - The scientists of Deutsche WindGuard Engineering GmbH succeeded in reaching flow velocities of more than 100 m/s through fundamental research and a number of optimization measures in the existing large, acoustically-optimized wind tunnel.

This enables profile measurements on rotor blades for wind turbines with Reynolds numbers of more than 6,000,000. \"The wind tunnel now meets all demands of the wind energy industry in terms of profile developments.\", says Dr. Knud Rehfeldt, managing director of Deutsche WindGuard Engineering GmbH. \"With Reynolds numbers as high as this, extremely precise measurements for the development of rotor blades for on- and offshore wind turbines are possible.\" The Reynolds number is an important parameter to transfer model experiments into real life.

The optimization of the wind tunnel in Bremerhaven for the attainment of higher Reynolds numbers was promoted by the Bremerhaven Economic Development Company Ltd (BIS) within the framework of the \"support for environmental protection\" program of Bremen’s Senator for Environment, Construction and Transport with subsidies of the European Funds for Regional Development (EFRE).
