RENERCO continues to expand its presence in the UK by acquiring a third wind farm project from RWE npower renewables

Munich - The transaction for the purchase of Cotton Farm wind farm was completed on 16 December 2011 under the terms of a framework agreement between RENERCO Renewable Energy Concepts AG, a company in the BayWa r.e group, and RWE npower renewables, a subsidiary of RWE Innogy, the renewables division of the RWE Group. Under the framework agreement, which was concluded in 2010, RENERCO acquired options to acquire up to 10 onshore wind farms across England, Scotland and Wales. Cotton Farm is the third wind farm acquired by RENERCO out of that portfolio.

Matthias Taft, spokesman of RENERCO’s Management Board, said of the acquisition: \"We continue to expand our presence in the UK through a strong relationship with RWE npower renewables, and Cotton Farm provides the latest example of our joint success. Given RENERCO’s considerable experience of developing wind farms in mainland Europe and the aspirations of our parent company BayWa r.e. the potential for growth in a new market is particularly exciting for us. We see a bright future for RENERCO in the UK and look forward to continuing the expansion of our portfolio\".

Dr. Hans Bünting, CFO from RWE Innogy said: \"We are very happy to be working with Renerco, a reliable and experienced partner in the development of renewable energy. RWE npower renewables has been one of the most successful developers in the UK over recent years. In order to ensure a balanced portfolio within our hydro, biomass and offshore wind technologies, we have decided to sell some selected UK onshore wind developments. RWE Innogy are fully committed to growth in low carbon technologies and have a current pipeline of 17.3GW across Europe. The UK will play a significant role in the delivery of this pipeline, as RWE Innogy continues to invest, build and operate our own sites\"

The Cotton Farm wind farm site is located in Cambridgeshire. Installed capacity is likely to be around 20MW, and consists of 8 wind turbines; construction of the wind farm is expected to start in May 2012.
