Nordex obtains order from Sweden for 24 N117/3000 turbines with installation scheduled for summer 2014
Hamburg - For Nordex business with the new \"Delta\" wind turbine generation is picking up speed: the turbine manufacturer has now signed a contract for the supply of 24 N117/3000 turbines for the \"Maevaara\" wind farm in the north of Sweden. The contract includes at least 15 years of Nordex Premium Service. The customer is O2, a leading Nordic wind farm developer. It is Nordex first large-scale project for the N117/3000, which was only launched in February 2013. Google will buy all the wind power generated from the wind farm for 10 years in order to provide their data center in Finland with clean energy.
The 72 MW \"Maevaara\" wind farm is to be built some 100 kilometres to the north of the Polar Circle, near the town of Pajala, close to the border with Finland. The turbines are to be set up on tubular steel towers with a hub height of 120 metres in commercial timberland. This means that the wind farm will be able to generate an optimum yield at this site, where medium wind speeds prevail. Moreover, due to the harsh ambient conditions with long periods of frost and temperatures down to minus 30 degrees, Nordex is supplying the cold-climate version of the turbine and will be fitting it with its own anti-icing system. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled for the summer 2014.
\"This order confirms our strategy of also being in a position to equip the turbines of Generation Delta with optional extras for very cold regions. With the N117/3000 we are able to offer our customers the most efficient turbines for regions with medium wind speeds and thereby exploit new potential also in very cold regions, like in Sweden,\" says Lars Bondo Krogsgaard, a member of the Nordex Management Board.
