ABO Wind focuses on new countries

• Cooperation agreements with Iranian partners concluded
• Bureau in Teheran rented
• New department „International Business Development“ sounds out further markets

Wiesbaden - ABO Wind approaches the target to get active in new countries rapidly. The efforts are most advanced in Iran. „We concluded several cooperation agreements with regional partners“, as stated by Director Dr. Jochen Ahn. ABO Wind recruits new employees locally and moves to a new office in Teheran these days. This will be the second non-European location, besides Buenos Aires.

ABO Wind is furthermore active in Germany and six other European countries at present and fed 1,100 Megawatt of Wind Energy into the European grid so far. The company founded a new department for international business development at its headquarter in Wiesbaden in 2015. Under the responsibility of Dr. Karsten Schlageter, experienced project planners are monitoring countries on several continents for potential new markets for ABO Wind. The structure of the electricity market, expansion targets for renewable energies, wind conditions and legal certainty are some of the relevant criteria.

Through intensive work with specialty departments for financing, grid connection and site assessment, the specialists identified several countries that seem basically suitable. „Our task now is to develop clear strategies for a market entry, fitting to the particular countries“, as stated by Dr. Karsten Schlageter. „We are doing very well in Iran.“ Schlageter says this is due to the many years of isolation of this country:
„Iran suffered from the sanctions, applied for their nuclear policy, for almost ten years. Their cancellation ignites a strong social and economic dynamics.“

This also concerns the energy policy. With a population of around 75 Million inhabitants and an area of ca. 1.6 Million square kilometers, Iran is ranked among the 20 most populated and largest states of the earth. The country has a very strong interest in the development of sustaining renewable energies. The produced oil is mainly determined for export. To cover the increasing energy requirement of the growing population, the government is relying on renewables. So far, around 350 Megawatt are connected to the grid. By 2018 another 4,500 Megawatt of wind energy are to be added.

In order to achieve this, some hurdles have to be overcome first. So far there are no international banks financing wind energy projects in Iran. Also structures have to be established to fit environmental impact assessment and grid connection requirements to international standards.

„We want to be involved to help the breakthrough of wind energy in Iran“, as stated by Dr. Karsten Schlageter. The premises are looking good: Iran guarantees a fixed feed-in tariff for wind energy and supports the development of renewables with binding regulations. The grids and infrastructure are already well-developed. ABO Wind is applying its expertise of 20 successful years in renewables. The expertise as well as contacts to manufacturers, banks and investors are demanded at the Persian Gulf. In cooperation with regional partners, ABO Wind already pre-registered wind energy projects with a capacity of around 350 Megawatt and founded several project corporations.

About ABO Wind AG

ABO Wind is a globally successful project developer for renewable energies with more than 600 employees. Since 1996, the company has connected around 700 wind energy, solar and biogas plants with an output of 1,500 megawatts to the grid.

We are currently working on the development of new projects with a total capacity of ten gigawatts. These projects are located in 16 countries on four continents and exceed the capacity of four average nuclear power plants. Two thirds of the projects under development are wind projects and one third are solar projects.

ABO Wind has more than doubled the number of projects under development from the end of 2017 until today. The assessment must take into account that more than five gigawatts are under development in South Africa and Argentina alone. It is comparatively easy to secure large projects there.

Project development in Iran was discontinued at the beginning of 2019.

The ABO Wind experts provide assessments, handle the approval process and financing, and take care of grid connection and construction. ABO Wind takes on all steps of project development from site acquisition to construction. We purchase projects at all stages of development and bring them to a successful conclusion.

We provide long-term technical and commercial operational management and maintenance, inspections, repairs, gearbox endoscopies or technical assessments.

We offer an open and honest approach to project development, backed up by an experienced team, many of whom have been working within the renewables industry from its early stages. At ABO Wind we see the whole picture and actively engage in public consultation prior to the submission of all of our projects.

Our bioenergy team provides operational management of biogas plants, develops new biogas plants or purchases and improves existing ones, and offers bioenergy services.

In order to contribute to a successful and comprehensive energy transition, our own department for future energy develops new concepts for a clean mobility, energy storage, and hybrid
energy solutions.

Our division of heat supply provides efficient heating and electricity from cogeneration plants or photovoltaics to large real properties.
