VSB at WindEurope 2026: Translating European Expansion Targets into Projects

Madrid / Dresden (renewablepress) - WindEurope 2026 is one of the most significant industry gatherings in the European wind energy sector, expected to attract around 16,000 participants and more than 500 exhibitors. VSB, part of TotalEnergies, will be present as an exhibitor in Hall 10, Stand F50, bringing its long-standing project experience to the debate on accelerating the expansion of renewable energy.

VSB operates in six European countries – Germany, Poland, France, Finland, Italy and Croatia – and has delivered more than 750 wind and solar installations since its foundation. For 30 years, the company has been developing projects across the entire value chain, from site securing and permitting to construction, operation and repowering. Its project pipeline comprises more than 20 gigawatts of wind energy, photovoltaics and battery storage.

“Europe needs not only ambitious targets, but also their consistent implementation in approved, financed and realised projects,” says Dr Felix Grolman, CEO of the VSB Group. “We translate energy policy objectives into tangible infrastructure – from greenfield developments and hybrid concepts to the repowering of existing wind farms.”

Repowering as a key lever

In the coming years, several tens of thousands of megawatts of onshore wind capacity in Europe will reach the technical or economic end of their operating life. Dr Felix Grolman will discuss this topic on 22 April in the panel “From ageing challenge to a repowering opportunity”. Löberitz, a current VSB project in Germany, demonstrates the potential: three Vestas V172-7.2 turbines replace five existing units, increasing capacity from 4.25 to 21.6 MW and annual output from 6.44 to 65.7 GWh.

Hybrid parks: making intelligent use of existing infrastructure

Löberitz is part of a hybrid park in which wind and solar are combined at a shared grid connection point, complemented by a PV installation with 19.99 MWp and, in future, a battery storage system. Hybrid parks reduce land use, improve grid utilisation and increase the efficiency of shared infrastructure. VSB is pursuing this approach across Europe, including a 303 MWp PV park with battery storage in Poland, expected to generate 446 GWh annually. A wind farm is planned to complement this large-scale photovoltaic park in the future.

In Madrid, VSB invites investors, companies and potential project partners to discuss concrete opportunities for wind, solar and hybrid projects in Europe. In addition, VSB representatives will be available on site for interviews and background discussions with media representatives.

Title: “From ageing challenge to a repowering opportunity”
Date: Wednesday, 22 April 2026
Time: 15:30–16:15
Location: Hall 9, Room “Powering the Future”
Description: As Europe’s renewable energy assets age, technical challenges are increasingly turning into strategic repowering opportunities. This session explores how modernising existing assets can unlock higher generation capacities, improve project efficiency and make better use of limited grid capacity. Speakers will share practical insights, current best practices and market signals shaping the next wave of repowering in Europe.

About VSB Holding GmbH

The future of our energy supply is in renewables. This has been VSB Group’s guiding principle since 1996. And it’s been successful, too. From its head office in Dresden, the consultancy has become an international provider of wind energy and photovoltaic solutions. VSB adds value throughout the entire project life cycle, from securing land through approval planning and implementation to operations. We also offer our clients and investors a full range of specialized services and operate as a general contractor. We aim to provide quality, optimal project management, high-value components and excellent partners.

VSB implements environmentally-friendly projects, reducing CO2 emissions by several thousand tonnes. With our partners, we help municipal councils and mayors to develop and implement energy- and climate-driven concepts. Our common goal is to create a reliable energy supply, use energy consciously and efficiently and at low cost. This enables us to involve citizens comprehensively at an early stage, build acceptance and develop individual participation models.

Over 350 employees in Germany, Europe and around the world are engaged to make our vision of 100 percent energy generation from renewables a reality. For example, we have already succeeded in connecting roughly more than 700 wind energy and photovoltaic plants to the grid. Many other projects are currently in development with cooperation partners, municipalities, citizens and investors.
