REpower presents new MM92 wind turbine at HUSUMWind / First turbine erected in Schleswig-Holstein

- Further innovation at the trade fair: “REguard” wind farm management system
- 5M to go offshore in 2006
- information centre will be open

Hamburg/Husum, 19 September 2005. REpower Systems AG will present a new 2-megawatt class wind turbine at the largest German wind energy trade fair, HUSUMWind (20 to 24 September): the MM92-type turbine is based on the tried and tested REpower MM-platform. The first MM92 was recently installed in St. Michaelisdonn (Schleswig-Holstein). Another MM92 located at REpower Systems AG’s site in Husum can also be visited during the trade fair. The company will provide visitors to the HUSUMWind trade fair with a continuous shuttle service from the trade fair site to their production premises.

With a rotor diameter of 92.5 metres and hub heights of up to 100 metres, the MM92 achieves its rated output at wind speeds of around 11 m/s and is suitable for mid to high wind speeds. The swept rotor area is 6,720 square metres.

“As with our other high-performance power stations, the MM92 will set new standards for profitability thanks to its optimal reliability,” explains Matthias Schubert, COO at REpower. “It will be officially presented for the first time here at HUSUMWind. We have already received very positive feedback on the product following initial discussions with customers across the world. The turbine has enabled us to take a significant further step towards reducing energy generation costs using technologically optimised wind energy turbines.”

The company will also be presenting a further innovation at the fair: “REguard”. This is an integrated wind farm management system that makes it possible to manage and monitor complete wind parks on a single internet platform. This degree of integration represents an innovation for the industry which is intended to meet the ever-increasing requirements for transparency in the operation of wind farms.

REpower Systems AG’s sizeable exhibition stand, which covers three stories, is located in Hall 1 of the exhibition centre. Visually, it is based on the world’s largest wind turbine, the REpower 5M. The 5-megawatt turbine represents the offshore future of wind energy. This step will be taken next year: the first two 5M will be located a few kilometres from the east coast of Scotland. Prof. Fritz Vahrenholt, CEO at REpower: “REpower is playing an important role in the wind power industry’s drive for competitiveness. Wind power has a future in Germany as well. The results of the German election will lead to a new consensus on energy policy that will favour alternative sources of energy to oil. We therefore have to develop our technological skills in all types of energy generation. This includes the continual prudent expansion of wind energy on land and at sea.”

REpower Systems AG also runs an information centre (together with the Brunsbüttel nuclear power station) within sight of the 5M prototype in Brunsbüttel. Here, REpower uses displays and demonstrations to pass on useful information on wind energy. The information centre has extended its opening hours for the week of the trade fair, and will be open as follows: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:00 hrs to 18:00 hrs and Saturday from 10:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs.
