Concentrating Photovoltaic Technology goes automation

Langen/Marburg - Concentrating Photovoltaics is just about to do the great step from manufacture to automation thus facilitating the generation of quite different quantities of power by means of this technology. Several German companies are contributing to this process. The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, for example, is currently holding the world record in the conversion of sunlight into electricity (41.4 %). At the end of 2008, Concentrix Solar, a company located at the city of Freiburg, has initiated its first industrial production for its concentrator modules. The Marburg company Concentrator Optics has scheduled the start of the production of solar optics for June, 2009.

The 2. International Workshop on Concentrating Photovoltaic Power Plants: Optical Design & Grid connection, to be held in the university city of Darmstadt, Germany, on March 09-10, 2009 aims at connecting project managers, engineers and physicists working on different design aspects of Concentrating Photovoltaic Power Plants thus bridging the gaps between academic research results and experiences in the field of concentrating photovoltaic power plants.

The workshop programme features sessions on Optical Designs, Cells and Receiver Packages, Materials and quality assurance, Modules and Trackers, Power Plants and Grid Connection as well as on Production Challenges and reserves sufficient time for academic discussion and networking.

It is now the second workshop focussing on concentrating photovoltaic power plants, its predecessor was held in Marburg in autumn 2007 with more than 100 participants from 17 countries.

The organizers of this workshop are two German companies, the recently founded producer Concentrator Optics and the renewable energy consultant Energynautics.
