juwi Solar is Expanding Business in Eastern Europe

- German project developer realizes nationwide largest PV power plants in Bulgaria and Slovakia

Woerrstadt - juwi Solar GmbH remains on its successful course realizing superlatives in solar energy in Central and Eastern Europe. The project developer has connected to the grid a 3.6 MW plant in the Bulgarian town Drachevo – it is the country’s largest solar park. In Kosihy in Slovakia juwi is implementing the country’s most powerful solar park. The company has opened an office in Bratislava at the beginning of 2010. \"We see great potential in Eastern Europe and will intensify our investments and create new jobs\", says Lars Falck, managing director juwi Solar. \"We are glad that a growing number of countries is providing basic conditions for renewables\". juwi is also successful in the Czech Republic and in Greece, planning to connect projects to the grid.

The largest solar park in Bulgaria is located close to Drachevo, a town situated approx. 30 kilometers southwest of the seaport Burgas. With 15,444 crystalline Yingli modules with an output of 3.6 MW 4.3 million kilowatt-hours can be produced – due to excellent irradiation conditions. The solar park is delivering clean energy to 1,300 households since the end of August. Drachevo is juwi’s first Bulgarian project; further projects are in the pipeline. \"The prospects for Bulgaria are promising. In the last year wind energy was developed, now Bulgarians discover solar power\", says Lars Falck. \"We have to see whether the feed-in tariff for solar energy is maintained and whether a tariff fixation without variation for existing plants is implemented. This would contribute to inspiring investors for Bulgaria and to accomplishing the goal for the development of the renewable energies.\"

juwi also started to be active in Slovakia and currently realizes the country’s largest solar park. It is located close to Kosihy and will produce approx. 4.2 million kilowatt-hours annually with 18,144 crystalline modules produced by Canadian Solar, with an output of 4 MW. The solar park with a surface of 10 hectares supplies energy to 1,400 Slovakian households and saves 3,700 tons CO2, it is supposed to be connected to the grid at the beginning of November. juwi has entered the Slovakian market in less than six months; other projects are in the pipeline.

juwi Solar is also expanding its business in the Czech Republic – until the end of the year the project developer will connect 24 MW to the grid; seven projects have already been realized this year. The largest solar park in the Czech Republic is supposed to be completed at the end of October in Hostovice, which is located 130 kilometres east of the capital Prague; with an output of 5.2 MW it will produce approx 5.5 million kilowatt-hours clean energy for 1,600 households and save almost 4,900 tons CO2 per year. 69,400 thin-film modules produced by First Solar are currently installed on an area of 15 hectares.

In Greece juwi has an excellent standing – the company has a market share of ten per cent in the area of turnkey projects. This year juwi has realized projects with a volume of 8 MW. As mainly small-scale plants are in demand in Greece – the biggest solar plant has currently an output of five MW – juwi has realized 40 projects from 20 to 100 MW so far. The largest project is the solar park Papafilis in Korinthos with an output of 1.9 MW, which is supposed to be completed at the end of October. Other solar projects with an output in the two-digit area are in the pipeline for the coming years.

\"Central and South-Eastern Europe offer great perspectives. Whether we can use these potentials to promote a lasting, eco-friendly energy supply with solar energy is dependant on future basic conditions\", says managing director Lars Falck. \"If these conditions remain attractive, there is nothing opposing investments in Central and Eastern Europe\".

The juwi group (http://www.juwi.com) was established as a specialist for regional combined cycle power plants with which municipalities and regions, industries and businesses can cover their energy demands in a clean, efficient and tailored way from renewable resources. A central element of this 100 per cent concept is photovoltaic. In Valencia juwi is presenting its entire range of services and products. \"We offer full service for roof and free-field plants firsthand. Whether it is acquisition, planning, financing, realization or operational management, we take care of every step of project development\" says Lars Falck, managing director of the juwi Solar GmbH. Beyond that juwi has innovative solar developments on board and is moreover presenting its already broad range of photovoltaic plants for roofs. The latter include innovative solutions for almost every kind of roof.

The juwi group is a leading project developer for renewable energy installations and was established in 1996 by Matthias Willenbacher and Fred Jung. Together they developed juwi from a twoman office to a company acting world-wide with more than 900 employees and a sales volume of 900 million euro (outlook 2010), which realizes solar, wind and bio energy plants as well as water power and geothermic projects.
