juwi Creates Jobs and Enters New Markets - Company is going to install wind turbines with an output of 300 MW in 2011

Brussels / Wörrstadt - Worldwide, the energy supply is at a turning point: towards renewable energies and a decentralization of the energy market. The juwi group (Germany), a specialist for renewable energy, leads the way. The juwi Wind GmbH (Limited Company under German Law), one of juwi’s business sectors, is expanding its international business with great strides. Only last year juwi Wind entered four new markets. This year the company plans to install wind turbines with a total output of 300 MW worldwide. "We focus on the great economic potential of onshore wind energy. One important area here is repowering", says Dr. Frank Finzel, Managing Director of juwi Wind, referring to the trade fair European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) in Brussels. juwi Wind is presenting its whole range of services at the EWEA in hall 1, booth 11540.

Currently one focus is on essential foreign markets such as France, the United States, Costa Rica and Poland. Only in 2010, juwi Wind celebrated market entry in Italy, Chile, Uruguay and South Africa. In South Africa and Chile the company plans to construct wind turbines with a total output of up to 200 to 300 megawatt (MW) within the next years. "Furthermore we extend our business in those countries in which we are already active. Our goal: an internationalisation of regionalization", says Dr. Marie-Luise Pörtner, Co- Managing Director of juwi Wind. These plans are accompanied by new hires: The number of employees of juwi Wind is going to rise worldwide from now 273 to more than 400 by 2012.

In Poland the project developer has recently finished a first project with three 1.5 MW turbines in the windy southwest of the country. The Fuhrländer turbines are located in Stypulow, approximately 100 kilometres east of the German-Polish border, and went on line in December 2010. In France juwi has meanwhile realized eight wind farms with approximately 75 MW in several regions of the country. The specialist for renewable energies recently opened another office in Nantes. In Costa Rica juwi just started its second project at the beginning of this year. In Santa Ana, which is located just 14 kilometres from the capital San José, juwi is installing 17 wind turbines with a total output of 15,3 MW. Referring to the performance (MW) juwi’s largest wind project was realized in the United States: The wind farm "Flat Water" in Nebraska was developed by juwi in 2009. In 2010 the new US Wind CEO Michael Rucker and his team supported the construction of the 60 MW wind farm, which is now connected to the grid.

In 2011 Germany remains the most important market. Besides installing wind turbines, the company is also active in repowering projects. Close to the village of Schneebergerhof in Rhineland-Palatinate juwi replaced an E66 with an Enercon E126. With a total output of 18 million kWh per year the E126 can supply 5,000 households annually with clean energy and counts thus among the world’s most powerful wind turbines. "In almost any region there are more than enough locations suited for wind turbines. Central offshore wind farms located far out in the sea only strengthen the monopoly of energy groups and burden consumers with higher costs", say Dr. Pörtner and Dr. Finzel. Decentralised renewable energies do not increase electricity prices – as is argued from time to time – but on the contrary have a price dampening effect at the European Energy Exchange (EEX). More and more companies and municipalities acknowledge this fact and are interested in establishing their own renewable energies in cooperation with the juwi group – thus aiming at becoming independent.
