PowerWind successfully enters the US market

- First 900 kW wind turbine installed in Berkshire East ski resort
- Focusing on community-scale segment with small and medium-sized projects

Hamburg - Right for the beginning of the ski season, the German manufacturer PowerWind GmbH has installed a PowerWind 56 wind turbine in the US ski resort Berkshire East, Massachusetts. The turbine, with a rated power of 900 kW, will produce more than 100 percent of the energy needed annually for operating the chair lifts and snow cannons. The excessive energy is used for supplying energy to the nearby small town Charlemont.

For PowerWind, this project is the entry into the American community-scale market. It includes small and medium-sized projects with local owners. The energy is used in the geographically close environment of the turbine, the produced energy remains in the region. Typical operators of such community wind power stations in the US are schools, towns or vacation or leisure sites, such as Berkshire East.

The customer of the first PowerWind wind turbine in the US is the company Berkshire East Ski Resort, managed by the Schaefer family whose ancestors came from Switzerland. The electricity produced by the PowerWind turbine guarantees that the company\'s electricity bill will be cut down to zero, and that they can even make profit by selling energy to the local energy provider. In addition to a reduction of the carbon footprint, PowerWind 56 also ensures the profitability of the ski resort.

The company Sustainable Energy Development (SED) specialized in community wind projects was responsible for developing the project. Both the Schaefer family and SED now see PowerWind as the \"perfect match\". The ways of thinking and working optimally matched, and they say that they are impressed by the personal commitment of each person involved.

PowerWind GmbH will further expand the community business in the US in the following years. The course has already been set.
