Intersolar Europe 2017: Collaboration between Wind and Solar Energy in the Workshop

Munich (renewablepress) - Wind and solar energy are the mainstays of the energy transition, as intelligently connecting different producers forms the basis of a stable power supply. Different energy plants are often affected by the same regulatory conditions – regardless whether they are producing wind or solar power. For this reason, Intersolar Europe, the world´s leading exhibition for the solar industry and its partners, is dedicating a workshop to this topic: Wind meets Solar and Storage – Optimized marketing of wind and solar power, will take place on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 10:30am–4:00pm.

Since 2016, it has been compulsory for operators to directly market power from newly installed renewable energy plants with an output of over 100 kW. Operators of older plants are allowed to make the move to direct marketing under the market premium model on a voluntary basis. The proportion of plant operators marketing their energy in this way has grown consistently since the introduction of this regulation in 2016. This sort of direct marketing plays a key role in achieving the energy transition in Germany, as it guides renewable sources of energy step by step into a market environment. Nonetheless, this model also harbors financial risks for operators.

The Intersolar Europe exhibition workshop (second floor above hall B2, room B13) will reveal which opportunities are set to open up in the coming years, as well as outlining the current version of the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and the challenges it poses for the German wind energy market. Various aspects of marketing will be explored from the perspective of the wind energy and solar industries – from the call for tenders and direct marketing, to control systems and virtual power plants.
