Sulzemoos, 3 May 2006 / At the end of April Phönix SonnenStrom AG founded a subsidiary in Spain. Phönix Energía Solar S.L., with headquarters in Madrid, is to expand the already existing sales activities of Phönix SonnenStrom AG in Spain and to develop the Portuguese market. In the years ahead, business on the Iberian peninsula is expected to make a significant contribution to the total sales of Phönix SonnenStrom AG.

In the spring of 2004 the Feed-in-Tariffs for solar energy in Spain were put on a legal basis which provides for partly more attractive conditions compared to the German law on renewable energies. Along with the considerably higher levels of insolation in Spain, this has led to the market growing rapidly with - according to ASIF, the Spanish solar association - a market volume in grid-connected plants of 17 megawatt peak in 2005. With its current sales activities in Spain, Phönix SonnenStrom AG has already won a market share of around 8 percent.

Francisco Conesa Cervantes is the managing director of the Phönix subsidiary. The Spanish MD has more than 15 years experience in photovoltaics from his former activity with BP solar, firstly as sales manager for Southern Europe and North Africa and then in the position of business development manager and project developer for large-scale photovoltaic power plants. Along with expanding the Spanish market, his duties at Phoenix Energía Solar S.L. will include developing the Portuguese market.

"We are delighted that we have got ourselves a PV professional who knows the Spanish market so well," commented Dr Murray Cameron, Board member and Chief Operations Officer who is also responsible for international business at Phönix SonnenStrom AG. "Francisco Conesa Cervantes enjoys our full confidence that he will establish Phönix as one of the leading suppliers in the Spanish market".
