Two REpower 5M in the Cuxhaven offshore test field in operation

Hamburg, 28 December 2006. REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703) has successfully erected two REpower 5M offshore wind turbines on the DEWI-OCC test field in Cuxhaven and taken them into operation. The first completed turbine is for the utility EWE AG (Oldenburg/Niedersachsen), the second for the joint venture EWC Windpark Cuxhaven GmbH between E.ON Energy Projects GmbH (Munich) and Essent Wind Deutschland GmbH (Düsseldorf).

Both companies want to test the use of the REpower 5M for offshore projects, after the way forward for developing offshore wind energy in Germany was established only a few weeks ago with the passing of the Infrastructure Act. The act eliminated key obstacles and removed a backlog of wind energy in the German North Sea and Baltic Sea which has been in place for years. One of the regulations is that energy companies must assume connection costs to the electricity grid for offshore wind energy.

With the REpower 5M wind turbine, REpower Systems AG has positioned itself as a leading manufacture in offshore technology. In addition to the onshore prototype erected in Brunsbüttel (Schleswig-Holstein) in 2004, a 5M was installed for the first time in a demonstration project off the Scottish coast in water 44 metres deep in August 2006. In 2007, it is planned to install at least six further 5M.
