G8 und Klimaschutz: Merkel fängt Bush ein
Münster (iwr-pressedienst) - Auf dem G8-Gipfel in Heiligendamm sind die Staats- und Regierungschefs in Sachen Klimaschutz einen Schritt weiter gekommen. Die USA, die das Kyoto-Protokoll nicht ratifiziert haben, sind nunmehr bereit, unter dem Dach der UN zu verhandeln. "Der wichtige Erfolg von Angela Merkel ist es, die USA in den internationalen Klimaschutz-Prozess wieder einzubinden und mit ins Boot geholt zu haben," sagte Dr. Norbert Allnoch, Direktor des Internationalen Wirtschaftsforums Regenerative Energien (IWR) in Münster.
Weitreichende verbindliche Klimaschutzziele auf Staatenebene waren auf dem G8-Gipfel realistisch betrachtet ohnehin nicht zu erwarten. Allnoch: "Der Klimaschutz ist durch die G8-Erklärung zur Reduktion der Treibhausgase in Bewegung gekommen und ein Stück konkreter geworden, wenn auch mit einem offenen Hintertürchen. Entscheidend wird deshalb sein, wie konstruktiv sich die USA und vor allem auch Schwellenländer wie China und Indien am Kyoto-Nachfolgeabkommen auf UN-Ebene beteiligen." Alle wissen jetzt um ihre jeweilige Verantwortung, auch US-Präsident Bush, so Allnoch.
