juwi founders named \"Green Tech Managers of the Year\"

- Fred Jung and Matthias Willenbacher receive prestigious management award

Berlin / Woerrstadt - Fred Jung and Matthias Willenbacher, co-CEOs of juwi Holding AG of Wörrstadt, Germany, have been named \"Green Tech Managers of the Year\" by the German business magazine Capital. The company, founded in 1996 by its co-CEOs, is one of the world’s leading developers of wind, solar and bioenergy plants, covering the entire process chain – from site selection to planning, financing and construction and on to operation. The award marks the second time this year that Jung and Willenbacher have received one of Germany’s most notable management awards, after having been selected as \"Entrepreneurs of the Year\" in October.

\'Capital\' established the new \"Green Tech Manager of the Year\" award just this year. Environmental technology is a success story in Germany; green tech companies generate over 200 billion euros today worldwide and provide more than a million jobs. Each year with the \"Green Tech Manager of the Year\" award, \'Capital\' will honor managers who are boldly leading the way in innovation, are highly successful within the environmental sector, are internationally oriented, and who practice their environmental ideals both in business and in life. Their products or services should be innovative and sustainable. \"Juwi impressed us the most; their success story is tremendous. The company was founded by its co-CEOs, real \'men of action,\' who truly live by their convictions,\" says \'Capital\' Editor-in-Chief Steffen Klusmann about this year’s prize winners.

The \"Green Tech Manager of the Year\" award is sponsored by Federal Environment Minister Dr. Norbert Röttgen. In addition to the Federal Environment Minister, the expert jury includes Capital’s Editor-in-Chief Steffen Klusmann, Dr. Görge Deerberg of the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT, Gianni Operto of the Good Energies investment firm, and Dr. Torsten Henzelmann of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. \"juwi won us over on the jury because they offer products and services that, first of all, help the traditional energy sector to reduce CO2 emissions, and then speed up the transformation of the energy sector for the CO2-free age,\" said Dr. Henzelmann, explaining the jury’s selection. \"juwi’s business model is clearly oriented toward sustainability. In addition to an ecological product range developing renewable energy generation projects, we were also convinced by their economic success under a leadership with an above-average social orientation.\"

Fred Jung and Matthias Willenbacher are convinced that a mix of renewable energies can make it possible to establish a secure, stably priced energy supply system in many places within just a few years. What drives the two \"Green Tech Managers of the Year\" is their belief in \"making the world a better, cleaner and fairer place.\"

\"This award makes us proud and happy. We are currently receiving a great deal of recognition – from without as well as from within. This encourages us to continue resolutely on the same road we have been following. Owner-run companies that, instead of simply chasing a quick buck, have an actual goal before them, take on responsibility, and pursue a sustainable, trust- based business policy also make a better showing on the market – particularly in times of crisis,\" said Fred Jung. \"Entrepreneurial success and visionary ideas are not mutually exclusive, but rather complement one another. Truly successful businesses keep them both squarely in view. We too have an overarching goal which drives everything we do: 100 percent renewable energy. We are firmly convinced that the electricity supply can already be completely changed over to renewable energies today – and that is exactly what we are doing. This makes juwi genuine and believable, and gives us and our employees great motivation – each and every day,\" added Matthias Willenbacher.

Olympic Swimming Champion Britta Steffen, Ambassador for the \"100% renewables\" campaign: \"I was recently in Wörrstadt and visited the wind farm there, which can supply around 9,000 households with clean electricity. I am currently studying industrial engineering, focusing on the environment and sustainability, and I support this campaign with all my heart because I am convinced that something has to be done to make a fairer and more secure future. And juwi is laying the foundation.\"

About the juwi Group:

juwi is one of the world’s leading companies in the field of renewable energies. Since 1996 the project development company has been designing, building, financing and operating plants that harness renewable energies. The juwi group was founded in 1996 by Matthias Willenbacher and Fred Jung. The CEOs together transformed the company from a two-person operation focusing on wind farm project development into an internationally active group with more than 700 employees and an annual turnover of about 600 million euros. In addition to solar, wind and bioenergy, juwi also specializes in water power as well as geothermal energy. To date, juwi has installed more than 350 wind turbines producing a total output of over 500 megawatts, while in the solar sector, juwi has built more than 1000 PV systems with a total capacity of over 300 megawatts. The Group has subsidiaries in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, the United States and Costa Rica. Together with their highly motivated team, Willenbacher and Jung also share a common goal: an energy supply from purely regenerative sources - 100% dedication to 100% renewable energies. The \"100% renewables\" campaign embodies this goal. For their dedication, juwi has received many awards, including the 2007 German Solar Prize, the 2008 German Climate Protection Prize, the 2009 Clean Tech Media Award and Entrepreneurs of the Year 2009. In July 2008, juwi commissioned the construction of the world’s most energy-efficient building in Wörrstadt. By 2011, the company is expected to have grown to more than 1,000 employees worldwide.
