juwi Sells Solar Park in the Czech Republic
- PV Plant Morašice supplies more than 300 households with clean solar power
Prague/Wörrstadt - 1,000 people in the heart of the Czech Republic could welcome the new year with a good conscience. The reason: They cover their energy needs with regionally produced clean solar power. Thus, they avoid more than 900 tons of the harmful greenhouse gas CO2 in one single year. After the successful commissioning in late 2009 and two years of controlled operation, the solar park Morašice has now been sold to the Czech investor Ing. Jiri Fast, under participation of the Czech bank LBBW.
The high-tech plant has been constructed by the juwi group, a specialist for renewable energies based in Wörrstadt in Rhineland-Palatinate. COO Jochen Magerfleisch is convinced of the Czech Republic’ s potential, despite reluctant support from the political side: \"Solar power is a central element of a comprehensive power supply based on renewable energies. The urgently needed energy transition on a European level based on 100 percent renewable energies cannot be realized without the expansion of solar power.\"
In Morašice, 14,200 First Solar thin-film modules with a total capacity of 1,065 kilowatts peak (kWp) are installed on a Schletter GmbH substructure. Two SMA Sunny Central 500 kW inverters convert the produced energy into alternating current. Since December 2009, power is fed into the Czech grid – with an annual yield of 1.16 million kilowatt hours (kWh).
