ENERTRAG develops improved Bloc II main bearing solution for Ecotecnia wind turbine

© ENERTRAG
Dauerthal (renewablepress) - ENERTRAG has developed a new main bearing solution for the wind turbine ECO 74/80/1670 kw of the Spanish manufacturer Ecotecnia, which is significantly more durable and more cost-efficient than the original spare part.

The affected turbines have been in use in Brazil, Morocco, France, Portugal, Spain and Italy for about 10 years. The turbine models of the ECO 70/80/1670 series are particularly known for defects at Bloc II, i.e. defective roller bearings at the main bearing. Until now, only direct replacement by the OEM with a spare part that has the same design flaws has been possible.

ENERTRAG has now developed an improved main bearing solution together with EOLOTEC a German company specialised in roller bearings and roller bearing systems for wind turbines. Based on the latest load assumptions and calculation methods, such as the finite element method, the improved spare part was redesigned using reverse engineering. Development has been ongoing since 2018 and the first three prototypes are now available. With this innovative solution ENERTRAG can provide the Ecotecnia customers with an optimized system focused on highest quality and permanent operation until the end of the turbines lifetime.

The newly developed solution is not only more cost-efficient than an original spare part, but also offers numerous advantages: The state of the art bearing design combines optimized bearing seats based on actual loads and calculation models with improved automated lubrication and sealing systems. Additionally, the bearing preload is now adjustable and equipped with permanent online monitoring.

The new main bearing solution combines German engineering with Spanish know-how and creates regional added value on site. Furthermore, only quality components are being used. For instance, exclusively rolling bearings from well-known manufacturers such as SKF, FAG and NTN are utilised. ENERTRAG's main bearing solution has been certified by the German Technical Inspection Association (TÜV).
