Communal agreement reached for Bertikow battery storage facility

© ENERTRAGDauerthal (renewablepress) - ENERTRAG is continuing to drive forward the development of the battery storage project at the Bertikow substation and has now cleared a decisive hurdle: communal agreement has been granted. This approval is the result of an open and dialogue-oriented process with the community, which was characterised by a willingness to learn and constructive exchange.
Dialogue and learning process on an equal footing
Past experiences – including rejection and significant criticism – prompted ENERTRAG to put its dialogue with the municipality of Uckerfelde on a new footing. Personal discussions, public information events and clearly understandable documents ensured greater transparency and more direct communication. This allowed both the concerns and suggestions of citizens to be taken into account.
Responsible consideration by the municipal council
The municipal council made its decision on the basis of careful consideration. It examined the opportunities and risks, dealt intensively with the available facts and kept both the potential for the energy transition and the interests of the community in mind.
The result represents a constructive approach to different positions and shows how responsible action can succeed in a spirit of partnership and cooperation.
Innovative battery technology strengthens the ENERTRAG Verbundkraftwerk®
With an output of 200 MW and a capacity of 800 MWh, the planned battery storage facility at the Bertikow substation will be a central component of the ENERTRAG Verbundkraftwerk®. It will balance out fluctuating feed-in from wind and solar plants and strengthen the security of supply in the region.
In addition, the battery storage facility will provide important system services for grid and supply restoration. Commissioning is planned for the third quarter of 2027. For the region, this means that electricity from wind and solar plants can be temporarily stored and fed back into the grid as needed. Overall, the project creates additional flexibility and facilitates the integration of renewable energies into the existing grid.
Project benefits directly for the region
With the combined power plant bonus, local people benefit directly from the flexible electricity supply and the regional energy transition. The project shows how technical progress and regional identity can be combined.
Voice from the project team
Marc-Daniel Transfeld, Regional Manager at ENERTRAG, emphasises: ‘We have learned a lot from past events, which were instructive for us as a company in many ways, and have consciously listened to the local people. The open dialogue with the community has helped us to further develop the project together. Openness and mutual understanding are the key to sustainable and viable solutions.’
Looking ahead
ENERTRAG would like to thank everyone involved in the community for the open discussions and looks forward to further cooperation. The battery storage project at the Bertikow substation shows that the energy transition can be achieved locally through joint efforts.
The next steps – from further detailed planning to construction preparation – will also be carried out in close consultation with the community in the future.
About ENERTRAG
At ENERTRAG, we have been advancing the energy transition for over 25 years. Our more than 1,200 employees design, build and operate integrated power plants. These are based on combinations of wind turbines, solar installations, our own grid infrastructure, batteries and electrolysers. These technologies provide reliable, on-demand electricity, heat and green hydrogen – completely replacing fossil fuel power plants.
With our own plants, we generate around 2,000 gigawatt hours of electricity from the wind and sun every year and have been producing green hydrogen since 2011. Based on this, we are developing energy projects with a capacity of over 30 gigawatts in nine countries on four continents.
ENERTRAG embodies the global energy supply of the future: sustainable, secure and regionally anchored – protecting our planet for current and future generations.
