© ENERTRAGDauerthal (renewablepress) - ENERTRAG and the leading Polish telecommunications provider Orange Polska have agreed on a long-term PPA to supply the operator’s infrastructure with carbon-neutral electricity from a 36 MW onshore wind farm developed and to be built by ENERTRAG.
Up to 10 Vestas V126 with a capacity of 3.6 MW each and 132 meters hub height will be commissioned by 2024. The turbines will produce 125 GWh annually, meeting around 20% of Orange Polska's energy needs. Currently, ENERTRAG is in the process of constructing and commissioning 186 MW of wind capacity across the Dargikowo and Karlino projects.
“We are very proud of our ongoing contribution to the Polish energy transition. Including this project, we will have realized more than 220 MW in Poland within two years. ENERTRAG is looking forward to construct more wind and solar plants in the near future”, comments Christoph Sowa, Head of Department Projects Poland.
For ENERTRAG’s partners, a PPA serves as a hedge against high energy prices and thus ensures long-term price stability for their energy procurement. In addition, a corporate power purchase agreement supports the financing of subsidy-free renewable energy projects.
“The negotiations with Orange have been very constructive and having agreed on a long-term corporate power purchase agreement within less than three months underlines ENERTRAG’s experience as a provider of PPAs. We are planning on designing and implementing similar PPA structures for future projects”, explains Simon Hagedorn, ENERTRAG CFO.
The off-take deal aligns with Orange Polska’s sustainability commitments. The company has recently announced that by 2025 it would reduce its direct and indirect CO2 emissions by as much as 65%, compared to the base year 2015. The overarching goal is to achieve net climate neutrality by 2040 at the latest.
“At Orange, we are constantly striving to reduce our own carbon footprint by managing resources and energy efficiently, monitoring their consumption and reducing carbon dioxide emissions related to our operations. Thanks to another Power Purchase Agreement, we will be halfway to meet our climate ambitions. I am glad that in this way we are contributing to the development of renewable capacities in Poland”, said Julien Ducarroz, CEO of Orange Polska.
