Potenza/Dresden (renewablepress) - VSB Italy has obtained the single authorisation (AU) required to build its AgriPV project in the municipality of Roseto degli Abruzzi, in the Contrada San Giovanni area of the Abruzzo region. The project will cover a fenced area of approximately 11.6 hectares and will have a total capacity of 7.24 MW.

The initiative forms part of VSB Italy’s broader strategy to promote the energy transition by implementing innovative renewable energy solutions that are fully compatible with the landscape and productive characteristics of the territories involved. The goal is to reach ready-to-build status by the end of 2025, with the plant expected to become fully operational by 2026. Once commissioned, the solar farm will be capable of supplying climate-friendly electricity to around 3,800 people – a meaningful contribution to the regional energy transition.

The Roseto degli Abruzzi project is designed as a high-efficiency AgriPV system, combining solar energy production with sustainable agricultural activity. The site will be cultivated according to a rotational agronomic plan, alternating annually between vegetable crops – such as asparagus and artichokes – and forage crops like clover and vetch. This dual-use approach enables the coexistence of renewable energy generation and farming, ensuring continued access to agricultural land, preserving soil health, and supporting the local rural economy.

“This project demonstrates how agriculture and the energy transition can go hand in hand, creating both environmental and economic value for the region,” says Francesco Rossi, Managing Director of VSB Italy. “It also reflects the professionalism and teamwork that have driven this innovative, locally integrated initiative. My sincere thanks go to everyone for their commitment and high-quality work.”

Dr Felix Grolman, CEO of VSB Group, adds: “I am immensely proud of what our colleagues at VSB Italy have achieved. Securing approval for such an advanced agrivoltaic project demonstrates not only technical excellence, but also a deep respect for the local context. It reflects our commitment to sustainable innovation and to shaping the energy transition in close harmony with regional development.”

With this new milestone, VSB Italy reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable energy future, by advancing projects that combine technological excellence with environmental responsibility, while making a tangible contribution to the development of local communities.

About VSB Holding GmbH

The future of our energy supply is in renewables. This has been VSB Group’s guiding principle since 1996. And it’s been successful, too. From its head office in Dresden, the consultancy has become an international provider of wind energy and photovoltaic solutions. VSB adds value throughout the entire project life cycle, from securing land through approval planning and implementation to operations. We also offer our clients and investors a full range of specialized services and operate as a general contractor. We aim to provide quality, optimal project management, high-value components and excellent partners.

VSB implements environmentally-friendly projects, reducing CO2 emissions by several thousand tonnes. With our partners, we help municipal councils and mayors to develop and implement energy- and climate-driven concepts. Our common goal is to create a reliable energy supply, use energy consciously and efficiently and at low cost. This enables us to involve citizens comprehensively at an early stage, build acceptance and develop individual participation models.

Over 350 employees in Germany, Europe and around the world are engaged to make our vision of 100 percent energy generation from renewables a reality. For example, we have already succeeded in connecting roughly more than 700 wind energy and photovoltaic plants to the grid. Many other projects are currently in development with cooperation partners, municipalities, citizens and investors.
