Münster, 31 March 2006 - The International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies (IWR) in Münster has for the first time determined the ‘stock of the year’ among the around 60 worldwide companies in the renewable energy industry with stock exchange listings. For 2005, the Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa tops the international rankings ahead of its Danish competitor Vestas and the German solar power company SolarWorld. The IWR study utilizes a ranking point system based on the market capitalization per trading day.

"In a strongly competitive international environment, Gamesa’s management has managed – not just briefly but continually throughout 2005 – to keep the company’s market value in a top spot relative to its competitors," says IWR Head Dr. Norbert Allnoch.

Climbers of the year compared with 2004 are the two German solar energy companies, Conergy AG and Q-Cells AG, which are listed amongst the international TOP 10 for the first time. "Q-Cells’ rise straight to number nine in the international rankings is extremely remarkable, as the company has only been listed on the stock exchange since October," notes Allnoch.

The International Economic Platform for Renewable Energies (IWR) plans every year to publish the ‘stock of the year’ for the renewable energy industry according to the presented procedure. Allnoch: "In 2005, it is mainly companies from the solar energy industry that have gone public. We’re assuming that the international market for renewable energy technology will also continue to develop positively in 2006 and, in a positive trading environment, the worldwide number of listed companies in the renewable energy industry will also increase considerably this year."
