Deutsche Windtechnik takes over all offshore maintenance contracts from Dutch construction company Ballast Nedam N.V.

Bremen - Deutsche Windtechnik AG has finalised an asset deal with the listed construction company Ballast Nedam N.V.; with immediate effect, the foundations and cables for the offshore wind farms Westermeerwind in the IJsselmeer and Butendiek, Luchterduinen and Prinses Amalia Wind Farm in the North Sea will be maintained by Deutsche Windtechnik. The company is also taking on the civil engineers from Ballast Nedam responsible for parts of the project management for the service work in the wind farm. This purchase significantly expands Deutsche Windtechnik’s expertise in the area of maintenance and repair of offshore foundations. This means that the company is in a position to provide comprehensive single-source service for offshore wind power plants above and below the waterline, and to combine them to create a real full service.

Offshore specialist above and below the water surface
Responsible for this new business area is Deutsche Windtechnik B.V., based in Utrecht, Netherlands. “With the takeover of the four projects and the qualified personnel we have further strengthened our expertise for foundations and underwater inspections, as well as our position as an important player in the offshore market”, declares Netherlands country manager Geert Timmers. The company now maintains over 315 support and foundation structures on offshore wind farms in the North Sea. The company is also responsible for various service tasks in the fields of underwater cabling (maintenance of the subsea cable protection system), corrosion protection (impressed current cathodic protection ICCP) and underwater inspections of the seabed, welding seams and inspection of the foundation structures. Within these contracts we work side by side with the companies that service the turbines.

Service expertise for the whole offshore wind turbine
Jens Landwehr, managing director of Deutsche Windtechnik Offshore und Consulting GmbH, adds: “With our experienced personnel, our infrastructure and maritime network, we are now qualified to provide full single-source service for the maintenance of offshore wind farms above and below the surface.” This includes service packages for the sectors Machine, Transition Piece, OSS, Corrosion Protection, Cable/Grid and now also Foundation/Foundation Structures. Our in-house Marine Coordination Team is responsible for monitoring and securing the sea space and coordinating offshore activities. Jens Landwehr: “Our advantage is that thanks to our wide range of services and our involvement in a variety of offshore wind farms, we can coordinate site-specific service packages with one another. Examples of how we use these synergies very successfully are the logistics and personnel areas. The customer profits directly from the optimised costs.”
