China steigert Treibhausgase auf Rekordniveau
Münster (iwr-pressedienst) - China hat im Jahr 2007 den Ausstoß von Treibhausgasen auf den Rekordstand von 6,4 Milliarden (Mrd.) Tonnen (2006: 5,9 Mrd.) gesteigert. Das bedeutet einen Zuwachs gegenüber dem Vorjahr um rund 500 Millionen Tonnen, teilte das Internationale Wirtschaftsforum Regenerative Energien (IWR) in Münster mit. Die USA liegen nach aktuellen Berechnungen mit 6,6 Mrd. Tonnen (2006: 6,5 Mrd.) nur noch knapp vor China. Insgesamt wurden 2007 weltweit 30,9 Mrd. Tonnen klimaschädlicher Treibhausgase emittiert, so viel wie noch nie.
"Bereits deutlich über 40 Prozent der jährlichen CO2-Emissionen entfallen auf lediglich zwei Länder, das sind die USA und China", sagte IWR-Direktor Dr. Norbert Allnoch. Während der Ausstoß in den USA relativ langsam wächst, dürfte der anhaltende Zuwachs in China bereits 2008 dazu führen, dass das Land der Mitte auf Platz 1 der Treibhausgas-Emittenten rangiert, so die IWR-Prognose.
